Overview

Contract review that follows your playbook, not a generic one

Legal teams get the most from Claude when it works to their own standards. The centre of this programme is the contract playbook: your preferred positions on liability caps, indemnities, termination, governing law and data protection, written down so Claude can compare a counterparty draft against them and produce a redline-ready issues list.

Using Claude Cowork, a lawyer can point Claude at a folder holding the playbook, the incoming draft and the standard template. Claude reviews clause by clause, flags deviations, suggests fallback wording and summarises what needs a commercial decision. The lawyer decides what goes back to the other side.

Jurisdiction matters

  • Indian contracts governed by the Indian Contract Act, 1872, with personal data clauses reviewed against the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
  • UAE agreements where the choice between onshore courts under the UAE Civil Code and the common-law DIFC Courts or ADGM Courts changes how clauses should be read.
  • Saudi contracts and the Saudi Personal Data Protection Law where data transfer terms come up.

Gulf teams frequently handle Arabic–English bilingual contracts. Claude can compare the two language versions and highlight where meaning drifts, which a qualified bilingual lawyer then confirms.

Two rules run through every exercise. First, privilege and confidentiality: what may be uploaded, under which plan, and how outputs are stored. Second, verification: Claude can invent case citations or misstate a provision, so every authority is checked against a primary source before it appears in advice or a filing.

In your workflow

Reviewing a vendor MSA in under an hour

In-house counsel at a Bengaluru technology company receives a vendor’s master services agreement. She places it in a Cowork folder with the company’s playbook and DPDP data processing addendum. Claude lists every deviation, rates each against the playbook’s fallback positions and drafts comments. Counsel reviews the list, changes two positions after speaking to procurement, and sends the marked-up draft the same afternoon.

Use it for

Legal use cases in the programme

NDA triage

Sort incoming NDAs by risk against your standard positions so routine ones move fast and unusual terms reach a lawyer quickly.

Litigation chronology

Build a dated chronology from emails and documents the team supplies, with references back to each source document for checking.

Data protection clauses

Review data processing terms against the DPDP Act or UAE and Saudi data protection laws, flagging gaps for counsel’s decision.

Arabic–English comparison

Compare bilingual versions of a lease or distribution agreement and highlight clauses where the two texts diverge in meaning.

Regulatory update summaries

Summarise a new circular or regulation the team provides and list which internal policies or templates may need updating.

Board and secretarial drafts

Draft board resolutions, minutes and committee notes from agreed points for the company secretary or counsel to finalise.

FAQ

Claude for Legal Teams Training — questions

That is a legal question for your own jurisdiction and circumstances, and we do not give legal advice. What the training covers is practical protection: approved business plans with appropriate data terms, clear rules on what can be uploaded, and documenting AI use, so your team can make informed decisions with their own risk function.
Claude can apply a playbook to any contract and reason about clauses, but its knowledge of onshore UAE, DIFC, ADGM or Saudi law must be checked. We teach lawyers to supply the relevant rules, state the governing law and forum in the prompt, and verify conclusions with qualified local counsel.
You cannot fully stop it, so you build habits around it. Ask for citations, provide source documents where possible, and verify each authority in a reliable database before use. The programme includes exercises where participants catch deliberately planted errors, which makes the verification habit stick.
Claude reads and writes Arabic and can compare Arabic and English versions of a document. Our sessions are delivered in English, and bilingual outputs should always be confirmed by a qualified Arabic-speaking lawyer, particularly where the Arabic version prevails under the contract or local law.
Cowork is the agentic mode in the Claude desktop app. It works on files and folders you grant access to, plans multi-step tasks and returns finished documents. For legal teams, that means reviewing a draft against a playbook and producing an issues list or marked-up document in one run, rather than prompt by prompt.
